Thus far in my world of many websites and blogs, there have been no drop-down text boxes included.
There's some on this website where the amount of text suggests a box is required. Readers have a choice as the original text remains in place. Their thoughts would be welcome. See foot of page.

Most chunks of text are referenced to enable readers to note and find text later. Of course, they can quote to others.
The default is that Item 1 of any box is open. Just close it if not wanted.
